Dear CMS Families and Friends,
A few short years ago CMS moved into this beautiful new building. Like most organizations, the basics were installed first with the "extras" being added as feasible. This past fall we added the garden and outdoor deck areas. We would like to begin adding playground equipment to the outdoor play area. A survey was conducted to find out what the parents, children and staff would like to have in the outdoor play area. The result was a play space with slides, climbing things, green space and a mix of traditional and natural elements.
With this in mind, a plan has been created for the outdoor play area. Attached is a copy of our playgorund plan. It is also available on the CMS website. The plan contains a double slide that uses our hills, (donated) climing rocks and stepping stumps throughout and near our garden; a four paneled climbing wall and an overhead climbing ladder. Much of the running green space is preserved, and the mulch area will be expanded and refreshed. There is something for both the primary and elementary student.
In the survey a majority of parents supported improvements that were $20,000 or less. After much feedback and searching, we have planned for a playground that will cost $12,143.90. The shipping and installation have been included in this estimate. In order to make the playground a reality we need to do some fundraising. CMS has already received a gift of $500.00 (parent plus a match from Roche). We are starting the Art to Remember project next week in which we hope to raise about $500.00 to be put towards the pruchase of the equipment.
If each family donates $150 toward the playground fund we can make our playground plans a reality. CMS is a 501c3 making your donation tax deductible. Also many companies like Roche & Lilly will match your donated funds. You could even buy scrip VISA gift cards and donate them back to the school! With a little luck and funds we could have the equipment installed over spring break making it available to your child this school year!
